Handover of Botswana Defence Force (BDF) PC-7 MkII
Pilatus is proud to announce that the Formal Handover Ceremony of the Botswana Defence Force PC-7 MkII Turbo Trainer Aircraft took place on 8 February 2013 in Gaborone.

His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Botswana and Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, members of the Defence Council, Botswana Defence Force General Officers, Retired Generals, Senior Government Officials and Defence Attaches accredited to Botswana and a Pilatus delegation attended the event hosted by the Botswana Defence Force Commander Lt. Gen. Galebotswe.

This major milestone marks the successful completion of the delivery and entry into service of the five new BDF Pilatus PC-7 MkII aircraft.

In his handover address, the Pilatus Chairman Oscar J. Schwenk noted that the relationship between the Botswana Defence Force and Pilatus dates back to 1989 when the supply contract for seven PC-7 trainer aircraft was signed. A relationship that became gradually stronger once the first aircraft became operational in 1990, 22 years ago. After two decades of successful operation with more than 28,000 hours flown and more than 70,000 landings recorded the ageing PC-7 aircraft reached the end of their operating life.

In 2011 the BDF opted to replace the PC-7 with the more advanced and modern PC-7 MkII trainer aircraft, a decision we believe was founded on the established relationship between us, the excellent track record of the PC-7, and a proven product such as the PC-7 MkII of which more than 160 aircraft have been sold. The PC-7 MkII has also been selected by other major Air Forces, the most recent order, subsequent to Botswana, being India.

The major program highlight was the acceleration of the schedule on request of the BDF, with all five new aircraft being delivered in 2012, four months earlier than originally planned.

The old PC-7s have also been phased out and from 2013 onwards all cadets can be trained on the new modern PC-7 MkII aircraft.

As in the past, the new aircraft will be operated and maintained by Botswana Defence Force personnel, supported by Pilatus Switzerland.

With the introduction of the new PC-7 MkII trainer aircraft which were formally handed over to the Botswana Defence Force we are extremely proud to continue our long standing relationship with Botswana!

Once Pilatus, always Pilatus!

The Royal Saudi Air Force selects Pilatus PC-21 for Pilot Training
Pilatus Aircraft Ltd is pleased to announce that a contract has been signed with BAE Systems to supply the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) with a fleet of 55 Pilatus PC-21 turboprop aircraft, together with an integrated ground based training system and a comprehensive logistics support package. This makes it by far the biggest ever order in the history of Pilatus.

Following agreement between the Governments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, under the Saudi British Defence Cooperation Programme (SBDCP), deliveries of the aircraft, ground based training systems and the logistics support package are scheduled to commence in 2014. The aircraft will provide basic flying training in Riyadh to the RSAF and will replace the PC-9 with the state of the art PC-21 platform in the shortest possible time

Twenty-five years have passed since the initial batch of Pilatus PC-9 training aircraft were delivered to the RSAF under an agreement with BAE Systems. After so many years of sterling service the RSAF has selected the PC-21 aircraft and ground based training system following a thorough evaluation both here in Stans and under hot weather conditions in Riyadh Saudi Arabia.

This is yet another major success for Pilatus Aircraft Ltd, confirming the confidence and the trust our customers place in the quality of our aircraft and the cost effectiveness of our through life support services.

After Switzerland, Singapore and the UAE, Saudi Arabia is now the fourth country to procure the PC-21 aircraft. This is in line with today’s changing training philosophies which are required for advanced operational aircraft now coming into service with major air forces around the world.

Pilatus is very proud to continue serving the Royal Saudi Air Force by delivering and supporting the most advanced turboprop trainer aircraft in the world – the Pilatus PC-21.

The Sauber F1 Team flies with a Pilatus PC-12 NG in 2012
A PC-12 NG with special Formula 1 livery showing the Sauber C31 racing car, will fly the Sauber F1 Team direct to the racetracks of Europe in 2012.

The PC-12 NG took off on its first mission last weekend, flying the eight-man team, plus team manager Peter Sauber, to the first race in Spain. The PC-12 NG landed in Sabadell, a small aerodrome with a 1000 m runway, just a few kilometres from the circuit.

Peter Sauber sums things up nicely: “One of the best features of the PC-12 is its ability to land on, and take off from, very short runways. It leaves us free to avoid the big, inefficient airports. We were back at the aircraft within a few minutes of the race finishing and airborne shortly afterwards, thanks to the smooth air traffic control service. We really can save a lot of time, and that obviously means greater efficiency and a better quality of life for our top management and chief engineers.”

The single-engine turbine-powered PC-12 NG offers a cost-effective solution for a wide range of transport tasks. An attractive purchase price, low operating costs, spacious cabin, large freight door and ability to operate in and out of very short unmade runways really set the PC-12 NG apart from jets and twin-engine turboprop aircraft.

“Sauber Motorsport AG is the perfect partner for Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. Both companies work with high-tech products and embrace Swiss values”, says Fred Muggli, Head of Sales & Marketing PC-12 at Pilatus. “With its outstanding features and flexible operating parameters, we are confident that the PC-12 NG will provide a comfortable, safe, fast means of flying Peter Sauber’s team to races right across Europe. We’re delighted that the team has chosen Pilatus.”
